Guest Lecturer on Oct 21, 10:30am to noon

Ross Sonnenberg artistic career has been defined by chaos.  About 24 years ago when he was getting ready to embark on a career in the film industry—that dream came to a crashing halt when he got ill with a debilitating disease Systemic Lupus.  He had to undergo chemotherapy to stop his immune system from killing him, he had to say goodbye to his dream of filmmaking but moved toward photography, because he has always “seen in pictures”.

Ross became fascinated with the photogram, a way of taking a photograph without the use of a camera. For the latest body of work “The Big Bang”, he has chosen various controlled  explosions from many different kinds of fireworks all with their own characteristics. After the exposure in complete darkness, he has to develop the paper by hand, which is usually done with a color processing machine.

Ross conducted his photographic artwork using light and energy to capture an instant in time which reflect possible outcomes of images in our distant galaxies that could be viewed through the Hubble telescope, just as our own night sky roils with light and energy creating new and exciting things on a contestant basis.
